Man Admits to Possessing Child Pornography for 2nd Time
ST. LOUIS, Missouri – Eric D. Goodwin, a 41-year-old sex offender from Manchester, Missouri, has admitted to possessing child pornography for the second time. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Goodwin was previously convicted of a charge of possession of child pornography in 2020 and was sentenced to two years in prison and a life term of supervised release.
Goodwin was released from prison in 2022 and was placed on house arrest. However, during a home visit by a U.S. Probation officer in June 2022, it was discovered that Goodwin had access to a room with computers and electronic devices. During the visit, Goodwin admitted to possessing an iPhone, a tablet computer, and a USB drive containing 882 images and 624 videos of child sexual abuse material that he had found using the Telegram app and on the dark web.
Goodwin also admitted to sharing child pornography with someone via SnapChat. His plea agreement states that he found the material using the Telegram app and on the dark web.
The U.S. Probation Office and the FBI investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jillian Anderson is prosecuting the case.
As part of his plea agreement, Goodwin pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography as a prior offender. He faces 10 to 20 years in prison when sentenced on January 4, 2023. Both prosecutors and Goodwin’s attorney agreed to recommend a 10-year term.
Goodwin was taken into custody at the end of Monday’s plea hearing. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.justice.gov/psc.
