A brutal assault in Manderson, South Dakota has landed a 19-year-old man behind bars for 33 months. Eric Kills Enemy at Night, also known as Eric Kills Enemy, was sentenced on March 15, 2013, for Assault With a Dangerous Weapon.
The victim, a man who wishes to remain anonymous, was struck in the arm and face with a wooden mop handle, breaking his arm in the process. The assault occurred in September 2012.
Eric Kills Enemy at Night plead guilty to the charges on December 5, 2012. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins prosecuted the case, bringing the perpetrator to justice. The court also ordered Eric Kills Enemy at Night to pay $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund.
The 33-month prison sentence and 3 years of supervised release are a stark reminder that violent crime will not be tolerated in South Dakota. The community can rest easier knowing that the perpetrator is being held accountable for his actions.
