Eric Labarge Pleads Guilty to Stalking Journalists in Boston
BOSTON – In a disturbing case of retaliation against journalists, Eric Labarge, a 46-year-old man from Nashua, New Hampshire, pleaded guilty to stalking two journalists employed by New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR).
According to court documents, Labarge conspired with his co-defendants, Tucker Cockerline, Michael Waselchuck, and Keenan Saniatan, to harass and intimidate the journalists, who had published an article detailing allegations of misconduct by a former New Hampshire businessperson. The article, published in March 2022, sparked a wave of retaliation against the journalists and their families.
Labarge, a close personal associate of the businessperson in question, allegedly solicited his co-conspirators to vandalize the journalists’ homes and their families’ homes. The vandalism included the use of bricks, large rocks, and red spray paint, with one incident resulting in a brick being thrown through an exterior window of one of the journalists’ homes.
Labarge pleaded guilty to five counts of conspiracy to commit stalking, including one count of conspiracy to commit stalking through interstate travel and using a facility of interstate commerce. He also pleaded guilty to one count of stalking using a facility of interstate commerce and aiding and abetting, and two counts of stalking through interstate travel and aiding and abetting.
Each charge carries a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine, and restitution. Labarge is scheduled to be sentenced on October 18, 2024, by U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani.
The investigation and prosecution of this case were led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, with valuable assistance provided by the Concord, Hampstead, and Hanover police departments.
