Eric Ladeaux, Firearm Charges, South Dakota 2022

A Rapid City man has been sentenced to federal prison for multiple firearm charges.

Eric Ladeaux, 35, was found to be in possession of firearms, despite being prohibited from doing so, on two separate occasions.

The first instance occurred in December 2019, when Ladeaux came into contact with Pennington County Sheriff’s Office deputies. The second incident occurred in September 2020, when he encountered Rapid City Police Department officers.

Ladeaux was also found to be in possession of an unregistered firearm during the September 2020 stop.

According to court documents, Ladeaux was federally indicted and subsequently sentenced to three seven-year terms in federal prison, to be served concurrently.

He was also sentenced to three three-year terms of supervised release, to be served concurrently, and ordered to pay a $300 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Ladeaux was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a violent crime reduction effort led by the federal government.

PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs to reduce crime.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rapid City Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.

The sentencing hearing took place on March 7, 2022.

Ladeaux, a Rapid City, South Dakota, resident, was charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person and one count of Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.
