A 26-year-old woman has been sentenced for her role in a brazen bank robbery in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Erica Lea Reeves, no known residence, was handed down a 19-month prison sentence for aiding and abetting bank robbery in federal court in Minneapolis.
The crime took place on July 17, 2012, at the Citizens Bank located at 1390 Highway 15 South in Hutchinson. Reeves and her co-defendant, Eric Andrew Ebbers, 25, no known address, stole $5,770 from the bank.
According to a law enforcement affidavit, Ebbers presented a bank teller with a note demanding money and warning that he had a gun. After taking the money, Ebbers ran to a waiting car driven by Reeves. Police tried to stop the vehicle, but the car sped away, exceeding 100 mph, weaving through traffic, and avoiding a police roadblock.
Reeves was arrested, while Ebbers fled on foot into a cornfield. He was apprehended the following day. Ebbers was sentenced to 71 months in federal prison on February 14, 2013, for aiding and abetting bank robbery.
In addition to the Citizens Bank robbery, Ebbers also admitted to robbing the Alliance Bank in Lake City, Minnesota, and the Key Bank in Gresham, Oregon. In both instances, he presented tellers with a note demanding money and warning that he had a gun.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Calhoun-Lopez.
Reeves pleaded guilty on November 7, 2012, and was sentenced on an unknown date, but presumably after the plea. The exact date is not specified in the press release. The charges against Reeves include aiding and abetting bank robbery. The total amount stolen was $5,770.
