A brazen heroin, fentanyl and crack trafficking scheme in Penobscot County has been dealt a major blow, with a Hermon woman pleading guilty to her role in the conspiracy.
According to court records, Erica Oliveira, 29, of Hermon, Maine, conspired with others to acquire heroin, fentanyl and cocaine base, commonly known as “crack,” in Waterbury, Connecticut between January 2016 and February 2017.
Oliveira allowed her Hermon residence to be used to distribute heroin, effectively turning her home into a hub for illicit activity. Her involvement in the conspiracy also facilitated the drug dealing activities of others.
The investigation, led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, uncovered a complex network of individuals involved in the trafficking of these deadly substances.
Oliveira now faces up to 20 years in prison, a $1,000,000 fine, and between three years and life on supervised release. Her sentencing is set to take place after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The case is part of the government’s Strategy to Combat the Opioid Epidemic, a concerted effort to tackle the devastating impact of opioids on communities across the nation.
Oliveira’s guilty plea serves as a stark reminder of the perils of heroin, fentanyl and crack trafficking, and the serious consequences that await those involved in these activities.
