Yanel Greene, 35, Sentenced to 8 Years for Bangor Area Drug Conspiracy
Bangor, Maine – In a major blow to the opioid epidemic, Yanel Greene, 35, also known as ‘Nel’, was sentenced to eight years imprisonment and a three-year term of supervised release in U.S. District Court in Bangor, Maine. Greene’s conviction was for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and distribute heroin, crack cocaine, and oxycodone.
According to court records, Greene and his co-conspirators worked together to distribute cocaine base, heroin, and oxycodone in the Bangor area and elsewhere between January 2013 and September 2015. Greene would obtain the drugs from sources in New York City and arrange for others to transport them back to the Bangor area. He would then provide the drugs to others who would distribute them and bring the drug proceeds back to him.
The court held Greene responsible for distributing in excess of one kilogram of heroin and two kilograms of crack cocaine. This case is closely tied to the prior prosecution of Mario Lee, also known as ‘Moe,’ who was sentenced to 218 months imprisonment for his role in the conspiracy.
The case was investigated by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. This case was investigated and prosecuted as part of the strategy to combat the opioid epidemic.
