ERIE, Pa – In a stunning admission of guilt, Damon Duane Amison, 21, has pleaded guilty to violating federal firearms laws in Erie. The admitted felon was caught with a firearm by the Erie Police Department during a search warrant executed on June 13, 2012.
The court heard that Amison, while a convicted felon, possessed the firearm, an offense that led to his plea before Senior United States District Judge Maurice B. Cohill, Jr.
Amison’s sentence is set for August 12, 2013, where he faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both, depending on the severity of his offense and criminal history. Assistant United States Attorney Marshall J. Piccinini will be prosecuting this case.
According to sources, the investigation that led to Amison’s prosecution was a collaborative effort between the Erie Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The sentence to be imposed on Amison will be determined under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, considering the gravity of his offense and any prior criminal record.
