Ernest Green, Drug Distribution and Felon in Possession of Firearms, Louisiana 2024

New Orleans, Louisiana – The grimy streets of New Orleans were hit with a hard-fisted blow as Ernest Green (“GREEN”) was sentenced to over six years in federal prison for his involvement in a drug distribution operation and being a felon in possession of firearms.

On June 26, 2024, U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon handed down the sentence of 78 months imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, and a $200 special assessment fee to GREEN, who is now a convicted drug kingpin turned federal inmate.

The DOJ’s New Orleans Gang Task Force and the New Orleans Police Department had been on his trail since September 2020. The investigation led to numerous controlled buys of cocaine from GREEN and culminated in a search warrant at his residence that unearthed nearly three ounces of cocaine and two illegal firearms.

This is no isolated incident; it’s part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program dedicated to reducing violent crime and gun violence, making neighborhoods safer. The Department launched a strategic crime reduction strategy under PSN in May 2021, focusing on fostering trust, supporting community organizations, setting enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s New Orleans Gang Task Force, with support from the city’s law enforcement partners, led the investigation into GREEN. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachal Cassagne of the Narcotics Unit is handling the prosecution.

GREEN’s sentence sends a stark message about the severity of federal drug and gun charges. The streets of New Orleans are a step safer today as this criminal faces his fate behind bars.
