New Orleans, LA – In a stunning blow to the streets of New Orleans, two men have been handed down lengthy sentences for their roles in a sophisticated auto theft and firearms possession scheme.
Mister Mackey, Jr., 22, and Jonathan Frank, 40, both residents of New Orleans, were sentenced on May 28, 2024. U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey meted out justice after the pair pleaded guilty to a 20-count indictment involving theft from the Norfolk Southern Railyard.
Mackey was slammed with 58 months behind bars, followed by 3 years of supervised release and a $400 special assessment fee for stealing two cars from the railyard. He also faced charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm, and for possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
Frank’s sentence was equally severe: 87 months in prison, 3 years of supervised release, and a $300 mandatory special assessment fee. His offenses included theft of two cars from the railyard and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The surveillance footage that implicated Mackey showed him occupying both a 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor Crew Cab 4×4 and a 2023 Lincoln Aviator. On April 3, he exited the Aviator with an AK-47-style pistol. In August 2023, Mackey was found with marijuana, scales, and additional firearms during a traffic stop.
Frank was caught on tape driving two stolen Ford Explorer STs from the railyard while in possession of a Smith & Wesson handgun. The Department of Homeland Security, Louisiana State Police, and New Orleans Police Department worked tirelessly to crack this case open, with Assistant United States Attorney David Berman leading the prosecution.
This operation is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across all levels of law enforcement. It’s a testament to the collaborative efforts that make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
