La’Vontray Hayes-Williams: Carjacker Sentenced to 105 Months

ST. LOUIS – U.S. District Judge Sarah E. Pitlyk meted out a 105-month sentence to La’Vontray Hayes-Williams for his July 7, 2022, carjacking outside the Family Dollar store at 6440 West Florissant Avenue in Jennings.

The brazen act saw Hayes-Williams pull a handgun and demand a 2018 Nissan Sentra from its driver. With his girlfriend as an accomplice, he fled with the vehicle, sparking a high-speed police chase that spanned nearly ten miles and topped 100 mph.

Hayes-Williams was quickly apprehended after the pursuit, which led to charges of carjacking and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. He pleaded guilty in January this year.

Investigation of the case fell under the St. Louis County Police Department, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Nino Przulj prosecuted it. The incident is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.

The Department has bolstered its PSN strategy with a focus on fostering trust in communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.

On May 26, 2021, the Department launched this enhanced approach to violent crime reduction, emphasizing the importance of creating safe neighborhoods for all residents.
