NEW HAVEN, CT – Orlando Guzman, 74, of New Britain, will spend the next two decades of his life behind bars after being sentenced today to 240 months in federal prison. U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden delivered the sentence, also mandating a lifetime of supervised release, for the sickening crimes of recording his sexual abuse of a minor and hoarding thousands of images and videos depicting child sexual abuse.
The case, spearheaded by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), unfolded as part of a broader investigation into a network of predators sharing depraved content through private groups on an internet chat application. Investigators discovered that an account linked to Guzman was actively participating in these groups, a digital trail leading directly to his horrific actions.
Between February and August 2022, Guzman systematically sexually abused a minor female. The abuse wasn’t confined to the acts themselves; Guzman callously used mobile devices to record and store the abuse, creating a permanent record of his exploitation. This digital archive would ultimately become key evidence in securing his conviction.
On September 2, 2022, a court-authorized search of Guzman’s mobile devices revealed the full extent of his depravity: over 3,000 video files and more than 2,000 image files of child pornography, including the harrowing depictions of his abuse of the young victim. Guzman has been held in custody since his arrest on September 7, 2022, awaiting justice.
Guzman pleaded guilty on January 22, 2025, to both production of child pornography and possession of child pornography. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel E. Cummings skillfully prosecuted the case, bringing Guzman to account for his monstrous acts. The New Britain Police Department provided crucial assistance throughout the investigation.
