Binghamton, NY – Robert Snyder, a 68-year-old resident of Etna, New York, has been hit with a 70-month prison sentence for his despicable crime of possessing and distributing child pornography.
Snyder’s depravity was exposed when he purchased, ordered, and received DVDs containing child porn from a Canadian company. His sinister activities spanned November 2010 to February 2011 in Tompkins County, New York. A search warrant at the Toronto-based company resulted in the seizure of incriminating records.
But it was a 2014 raid on Snyder’s home that truly turned the tide against him. Authorities found computers and digital storage devices laden with more child porn images. The evidence was overwhelming, leading to his conviction in July 2016 following a four-day trial.
The sentencing today is a stark reminder of the severity of pedophile crimes. United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and Shelly A. Binkowski, Inspector in Charge of the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), Boston Division, made the announcement, emphasizing that Snyder will also be registered as a sex offender upon his release.
The case was jointly investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Toronto Police Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Miroslav Lovric prosecuted this disturbing case with determination and professionalism.
Robert Snyder’s sentence is not just a penalty but a deterrent to other predators. His capture and conviction serve as a victory for justice in a dark corner of society.
