It’s a grim day in Euclid, Ohio as local resident Joseph D. Weiss, 44, finds himself at the center of a child pornography scandal. United States Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach for the Northern District of Ohio announced that Weiss stands accused of receiving, distributing, and possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The charges against Weiss detail allegations of his involvement with numerous computer files containing images of real minors since March 4, 2013, up until March 15, 2013. Law enforcement’s search turned up child pornography on an external hard drive of Weiss on March 22, 2013.
Should Weiss be found guilty, the sentence will vary based on factors including his criminal record and role in the offense. The federal guidelines dictate that any sentence imposed will not exceed the statutory maximum, which could carry severe penalties.
The Assistant United States Attorney Carol M. Skutnik is leading the prosecution against Weiss. The Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Euclid Police Department have been instrumental in the investigation.
