Eufaula’s JAMES DEWAYNE MARSHALL, 33, entered a guilty plea in federal court on charges of Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of Drug Trafficking Offense. The plea comes after an extensive investigation by the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, Ardmore Police Department, United States Marshal Service, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The charges stem from an incident on or about February 5, 2014, when Marshall was alleged to have knowingly possessed a Ruger P95, 9mm caliber pistol, used in the commission of drug trafficking crimes. According to the indictment, Marshall’s actions were aimed at aiding and abetting Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute.
Judge Stephen P. Shreder, presiding over the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted the guilty plea and ordered the completion of a presentence report. Sentencing will be determined following the submission of this report, with Marshall currently in the custody of the United States Marshal Service.
The statutory minimum punishment for such an offense is at least 5 years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $250,000. Assistant United States Attorney Edward Snow represented the United States in the case.
This is yet another blow against Oklahoma’s drug trafficking networks, with law enforcement agencies working tirelessly to dismantle these criminal enterprises.
