Cornelius Antoine Dean, Gun Possession, Alabama 2023

MOBILE, AL – A brutal verdict was meted out to Cornelius Antoine Dean, 34, from Evergreen, as he received a 46-month prison sentence for the heinous crime of illegally possessing a firearm. The Department of Justice (DOJ) reported that the defendant’s possession was uncovered during a traffic stop on July 11, 2023.

In a shockingly close call, Alabama State Troopers noticed an odor of marijuana emanating from Dean’s vehicle. A pat-down search revealed a .45 caliber pistol tucked in his waistband. The troopers’ vigilance also led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia and contraband within reach of Dean.

Following the arrest, Dean confessed to the illegal possession, revealing that he had prior felony drug-distribution convictions. His brazen act was not only a violation of federal law but also a stark reminder of his disregard for the justice system.

In addition to the substantial prison term, United States District Judge Terry F. Moorer imposed a three-year supervised release upon Dean’s release from prison. The court waived fines but demanded $100 in special assessments and the forfeiture of the firearm to the U.S. government.

U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello announced the sentencing, emphasizing that this case was part of Operation Take Back America, a DOJ initiative aimed at combatting illegal immigration, eliminating cartels, and protecting communities from violent crime. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Roller prosecuted on behalf of the United States.

The investigation into Dean’s crime was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
