A Lafayette woman, Tonia R. Moore-Parker, 36, has admitted to stealing gift cards while working as a U.S. Postal Service employee in 2015.
Moore-Parker pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Patrick Hanna to one count of theft of mail matter by a postal service employee.
According to her guilty plea, Moore-Parker worked as a U.S. Postal Service employee from October 8 to October 31, 2015, and was entrusted with mail matter.
During that time, she opened five envelopes and stole gift cards worth $150.
The theft was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Dominic Rossetti handling the prosecution.
Moore-Parker now faces five years in prison, three years supervised release, a $250,000 fine, and restitution.
A sentencing date has yet to be set.
