Rapid City Man Pleads Guilty to Enticement of a Minor

A 29-year-old Rapid City man has admitted to using the internet to lure two underage girls into engaging in sexual activity.

Casey James Godfrey appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge John E. Simko on January 15, 2015, and pleaded guilty to Enticement of a Minor Using the Internet. The Magistrate Judge is expected to recommend the plea be accepted by the District Court.

Godfrey used the internet between July 2013 and January 2014 to entice the two females, who were both under the age of 18, to engage in sexual activity. The investigation was conducted by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Collins.

The penalty upon conviction is a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison, up to life imprisonment, and/or a $250,000 fine.

A presentence investigation has been ordered, and a sentencing date will be set. Godfrey was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals pending acceptance of his plea and sentencing.
