LAFAYETTE, La. – The grim halls of justice were once again echoed with the sound of betrayal as Joshua Uhlman, a former Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy, now stands accused of heinous crimes against children. According to Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook, a grand jury in the Western District of Louisiana has formally charged Uhlman, 36, of Pine Prairie, with two counts of production of child pornography and one count of receipt of child pornography.
The charges against Uhlman, detailed by the indictment, are harrowing. It is alleged that between September 2024 and February 2, 2025, he attempted to coerce two minors into engaging in sexually explicit conduct, with the intent to produce visual depictions of such acts for interstate transmission. The indictment further claims that during this same period, Uhlman knowingly received child pornography through means and facilities of interstate commerce.
Should Uhlman be found guilty on all counts, he faces a sentence of at least 15 years and up to 30 years on each production count, alongside a minimum of 5 years and up to 20 years for the receipt charge. He also risks 3 years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
It’s important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and Uhlman is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The investigation into this case has been led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Craig R. Bordelon, II, handling the prosecution.
