BOSTON, MA – Colombian Man Sentenced for Reentering US After Deportation
A Colombian man has been sentenced to six months in prison for illegally reentering the United States after deportation, according to a federal indictment.
Fabian Lopez Mejia, 31, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper to six months in prison to be followed by one year of supervised release.
Lopez Mejia was previously removed from the United States in November 2019. Sometime after his removal, Lopez Mejia returned to the United States.
Federal authorities became aware of Lopez Mejia’s return to the United States while he was serving a state prison sentence after he pleaded guilty in October 2023 in Suffolk Superior Court to one count of possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance and one count of forgery/misuse of an RMV document.
Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Todd M. Lyons, Field Office Director, Boston, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations made the announcement today.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Reynolds III of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
Lopez Mejia pleaded guilty in September 2024 to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. In June 2024, Lopez Mejia was indicted by a federal grand jury.
