A California man was caught peddling fake IDs to online food delivery drivers at the New York border, a scam that paid out $250 a pop. Miguel Angel Guevara-Murillo, 35, was sentenced to time served after being caught with device-making equipment in his car.
The equipment, including a laptop, access card printer, and scanner, was found in the trunk of his car on July 28, 2025, at the Rainbow Bridge Port of Entry.
Guevara-Murillo used the equipment to create counterfeit identification documents that looked like they were issued by different states. He sold the documents to delivery drivers who wanted to work for online food delivery companies without proper credentials.
Customs and Border Protection officers made the bust, with Homeland Security Investigations leading the investigation.
U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo’s office prosecuted the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly at the helm.
