FAM Mob Leader Convicted of Felony Firearm Possession
MEMPHIS, TN – A federal jury has found Jarvis Lewis, 28, aka Jabo, guilty of felony firearm possession in connection with a violent street gang based throughout North Memphis and Shelby County.
According to the indictment, Lewis, who allegedly became the head governor of FAM Mob after its former head governor, James McCracken, was indicted federally in November 2014, unlawfully possessed a Jimenez Arms 9mm pistol on October 27, 2014.
Memphis Police officers responded to shots fired at the Ridgecrest Apartments Complex, which is allegedly used as the headquarters of FAM Mob. Upon arriving on the scene, officers learned that two men with guns – one of them being Lewis – entered a unit in the apartment complex.
Law enforcement gained entry into the apartment and located Lewis and his co-defendant in the apartment’s master bedroom. A loaded 9mm pistol, partially sticking out of a bag of sugar, was also located by law enforcement while searching the apartment.
The FAM Mob’s hierarchy allegedly consists of a head governor, governors, CEOs, big ‘homies’ and little ‘homies.’ Lewis’ conviction is the latest in a series of federal cases targeting the violent street gang.
Lewis is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Sheryl H. Lipman on February 5, 2016. He faces up to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000.
The case was investigated by the Project Safe Neighborhoods Task Force, which is comprised of representatives from the Memphis Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin Whitmore and Elizabeth Rogers prosecuted the case on the government’s behalf.
