FBI Impersonator Caught in Texas
A 52-year-old Cedar Park man has been convicted of impersonating an FBI agent in a brazen scheme to fill his prescription for Fentanyl patches at a Temple pharmacy.
A federal jury yesterday convicted Jonathan Jefferson Ferris on two counts of impersonating a federal agent, sparking outrage among law enforcement officials.
According to evidence presented during the trial, Ferris entered a pharmacy in Temple on multiple occasions in July and August 2019, identifying himself as an out-of-town FBI agent on temporary assignment.
Ferris wore a lanyard with a fake FBI identification card attached and used fraudulent documentation purportedly from the FBI to support his request for filling the Fentanyl prescriptions.
U.S. Attorney Ashley C. Hoff and Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs of the FBI’s San Antonio Division made the announcement, condemning Ferris’ actions as a threat to public safety.
Ferris faces up to three years in federal prison. Sentencing is scheduled for September 29, 2021, before U.S. District Judge Alan Albright.
The FBI conducted this investigation together with investigators from DEA Diversion and the Cedar Park Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Frazier is prosecuting this case.
The case highlights the need for vigilance among law enforcement officials and the public to prevent such impersonation schemes from occurring.
