Seok Joon Lee, Impersonating a Federal Officer, Pennsylvania 2026

⏱ 2 min read

Seok Joon Lee, a 54-year-old man from Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, walked into a Philadelphia supermarket on April 22, 2026, wearing a bulletproof vest, a law enforcement-type duty belt, and a holstered firearm. He identified himself as an FBI agent to a security guard and attempted to conduct a security check of the supermarket. But it was all a ruse – Lee was impersonating an FBI agent, and now he’s facing federal charges.

When confronted by responding officers from the Philadelphia Police Department, Lee claimed he was “undercover FBI” and that his credentials could be found elsewhere. But his story didn’t add up, and he was subsequently charged with impersonating a federal officer.

The indictment alleges that Lee falsely assumed and pretended to be an agent and employee of the FBI, and acted as such. If convicted, he faces a maximum possible sentence of a monetary fine and three years in prison.

The case was investigated by the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Philadelphia Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Michael R. Miller and Nelson S.T. Thayer Jr. are prosecuting the case.
