On October 4, 2025, Diego Emmanuel Reyes, 21, allegedly rammed his SUV into a vehicle driven by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent on the Southwest Side of Chicago during Operation Midway Blitz. The agent was engaged in official duties when the incident occurred. Reyes, of Chicago, used his vehicle as a deadly weapon, accelerating forward and pushing the agent’s vehicle.
The incident was caught on video, which shows the brazen attack. Reyes has been charged with assaulting, impeding, intimidating, and interfering with a federal officer using a deadly and dangerous weapon. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison due to the use of a deadly weapon.
The indictment was announced by U.S. Attorney Andrew S. Boutros and FBI Special Agent-in-Charge Douglas S. DePodesta. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn McCarthy. According to U.S. Attorney Boutros, the attack was a ‘dangerous and brazen act of violence against a federal agent’ and an ‘attack on the rule of law’.
The Chicago U.S. Attorney’s Office has vowed to hold accountable those who seek to assault or interfere with federal operations. Reyes’s arraignment in federal court has not been scheduled yet.
