Narcotics Bust in Grand Island

Felix Chacon, a 61-year-old man from Grand Island, Nebraska, has been sentenced to 50 months in prison for distributing methamphetamine. Chacon was found guilty of selling the highly addictive substance to an informant in 2018.

According to the investigation, Chacon twice met with the informant in February 2018 and sold them 57 grams of methamphetamine. The controlled purchases were monitored and recorded by police. Chacon pleaded guilty to his offense on August 30, 2023.

The sentencing included an enhancement for obstruction of justice. After his initial arrest, Chacon was released from custody pending trial. However, he failed to appear for trial on July 26, 2021, and was later arrested in January 2023 in New Mexico. This action led to an enhancement under the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

Chacon will begin a 5-year term of supervised release after his release from prison. The case was investigated by the Trident Drug Task Force, which includes the Grand Island Police Department, Hall County Sheriff’s Department, Kearney Police Department, Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department, Hastings Police Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

In a statement, Acting United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced the sentencing. She emphasized the importance of the work done by law enforcement agencies in tackling the issue of narcotics distribution in the community.
