Cocaine Conspiracy Rocks Omaha: Texas Man Sentenced to 87 Months in Prison

A Texas man has been sentenced to 87 months in prison for his role in a cocaine conspiracy that brought illicit drugs to Omaha, Nebraska. Luis Perez, 37, of Rosenburg, Texas, was sentenced on March 12, 2025, in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska.

According to court records, Perez was the mastermind behind a cocaine ring that supplied kilogram quantities of the illicit substance to a local dealer in Omaha. The dealer, Gary Pope, was already under investigation by law enforcement for his role in distributing cocaine in the Omaha area.

A three-month wiretap of Pope’s cell phone in 2022 revealed that Perez was sending kilogram quantities of cocaine from Texas using a courier, co-defendant Joseph Reyes. Reyes was arrested on May 23, 2022, in Kansas with two kilograms of cocaine destined for Omaha.

Pope’s arrest and subsequent attempts to continue the operation led to the arrest of another co-defendant, Lonnie Embers, on July 15, 2022, in Oklahoma. Embers was caught with two kilograms of cocaine destined for Omaha from a different Texas supplier.

The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation. The effort aimed to disrupt and dismantle high-level criminal organizations threatening the United States.

Perez’s sentence marks the end of a long investigation that resulted in the conviction of four defendants. Pope, 43, was sentenced to 87 months in prison for the Nebraska case and an additional 66 months for a case prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. Reyes, 34, and Embers, 53, each received 46 months in prison.

Luis Perez’s 87-month sentence brings closure to a case that highlights the ongoing threat of cocaine trafficking in the United States. The investigation demonstrates the effectiveness of law enforcement’s efforts to disrupt and dismantle high-level criminal organizations.
