Felon Armed and Dangerous: Charmco Man Pleads Guilty to Gun Crime
BECKLEY, W.Va. – 57-year-old Grover D. Jordan of Charmco, West Virginia, has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Jordan’s guilty plea comes after law enforcement discovered a stash of firearms during two separate traffic stops. The first stop took place on January 18, 2023, in Fayetteville, where officers discovered a Taurus model PT1911 .45-caliber pistol, an Armi Galesi model 9 6.35mm pistol, and a Beretta model 3032 Tom Cat .32-caliber pistol with a removed, altered, or obliterated serial number.
During a second traffic stop on August 20, 2023, in Charmco, police discovered a Smith & Wesson .38-caliber revolver. Jordan also admitted to possessing a Dupont electric generator, which is considered explosive material under federal law.
Jordan’s possession of these firearms is a clear violation of federal law, which prohibits individuals with prior felony convictions from possessing firearms. Jordan’s previous convictions for two counts of wanton endangerment in Raleigh County Circuit Court on March 15, 2019, render him ineligible to possess a firearm.
United States Attorney Will Thompson commended the investigative work of the Fayetteville Police Department, the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for their role in uncovering Jordan’s illicit activities.
Jordan is set to be sentenced on August 30, 2024, and faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Assistant United States Attorneys Brian D. Parsons and Justin Marlowe are prosecuting the case. United States District Magistrate Judge Omar J. Aboulhosn presided over the hearing.
