Felon Armed with Pistol Sentenced to 9 Years

A convicted felon from Shreveport has been sentenced to nearly a decade in prison for being in possession of a firearm. Marquis Moss, 31, was handed down a 115-month sentence by U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks, Jr. Moss will also serve 3 years of supervised release following his prison term.

The conviction stems from a February 22, 2019 incident where 9-1-1 dispatchers received a hang-up call in the Fullerton Street area of Shreveport. Shreveport Police officers were dispatched to the scene and found Moss armed with a pistol and ammunition.

Moss had previously pleaded guilty to the charge on February 3, 2020. Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of a firearm or ammunition.

The investigation was conducted by the ATF and the Shreveport Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary J. Mudrick prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

This case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. The program brings together law enforcement and community members to address the root causes of crime.

Moss’s history of convictions includes carnal knowledge of a juvenile in 2013 and attempted distribution of a false CDS. His sentencing serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of violating federal firearms laws.
