Davenport Man Sentenced to 90 Months for Felon in Possession Charge

Tiano Nishan Trice, 34, of Davenport, Iowa, is facing the harsh reality of a 90-month prison sentence after being convicted of a felon in possession of a firearm charge. Trice was sentenced by Senior United States District Court Judge James E. Gritzner on January 13, 2016.

The conviction stems from a disturbing incident on April 12, 2015, where a female victim reported Trice had threatened her and held a gun to her head. Davenport Police officers responded to the scene and were able to locate the firearm, a stolen Smith and Wesson 40-caliber handgun, hidden under a bedroom mattress.

According to the investigation, the handgun was traced back to a garage in Davenport where it was stolen. This latest offense is Trice’s second conviction, with a prior felony conviction for delivery of crack cocaine dating back to 2005.

Trice was ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term and to pay $100 towards the Crime Victims’ Fund. He was also required to forfeit the Smith and Wesson 40-caliber handgun involved in the offense.

The case was investigated by the Davenport Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted the case as part of the Project Safe Neighborhood initiative.

Acting United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel announced Trice’s sentencing, highlighting the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions. The community can rest a little easier knowing that justice has been served in this case.

Trice pleaded guilty to the felon in possession of a firearm charge on September 8, 2015, marking the beginning of the end for his freedom.
