BUFFALO, N.Y. – Roberto Millan, 36, of Jamestown, New York, will spend the next three decades behind bars after being sentenced to 360 months in prison for the production of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara handed down the sentence, along with a 20-year term of supervised release, today, bringing a grim conclusion to a case that exposed a predator exploiting a vulnerable teenager.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office, led by Michael DiGiacomo, detailed a disturbing pattern of behavior. Between December 28, 2021, and February 8, 2022, Millan engaged in sexually explicit conversations with a 15-year-old victim using the mobile application TextNow. These weren’t innocent chats; Assistant U.S. Attorney Maeve E. Huggins revealed the conversations quickly devolved into demands and explicit instructions for the victim to create and send sexually suggestive videos and images.
The evidence didn’t stop at requests for images. Investigators uncovered messages indicating Millan and the victim engaged in actual sexual contact, painting a horrifying picture of grooming and abuse. The details are sickening and highlight the dangers lurking in online spaces, where predators like Millan seek to exploit and destroy young lives.
The investigation, a joint effort between the Jamestown Police Department, under Chief Timothy Jackson, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, led by Acting Special Agent in Charge Mark Grimm, was meticulous and relentless. Their work ensured Millan was brought to justice, and the victim received the support needed to begin the long process of healing. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and rapid response in protecting children from online predators.
Millan’s 30-year sentence sends a clear message: the production and distribution of child pornography will not be tolerated. While no sentence can fully repair the damage inflicted on the victim, it provides a measure of accountability and hopefully prevents Millan from harming others. The Grimy Times will continue to follow federal cases like this, exposing the dark underbelly of crime and holding perpetrators accountable.
The sentencing of Roberto Millan is a grim reminder of the pervasive nature of online exploitation. Law enforcement agencies urge anyone with information about potential child exploitation to come forward. Resources are available to help victims and to report suspected abuse. This case underscores the critical need for continued vigilance and proactive measures to protect vulnerable children in the digital age.
