BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a stunning revelation of cyber-enabled child exploitation, Roberto Millan, 36, from Jamestown, NY, has been sentenced to 360 months in federal prison for producing child pornography, a charge that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years. The harrowing case has sent shockwaves through the community as U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced the sentencing.
Millan was convicted of engaging in sexually explicit conversations with a 15-year-old victim over TextNow, a mobile phone application, between December 28, 2021, and February 8, 2022. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Maeve E. Huggins, Millan demanded the victim take sexually explicit videos and images and send them to him. The conversations revealed an alarming level of control and predatory behavior over the young victim.
U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara imposed the sentence, which also includes 20 years of supervised release. This is a significant victory for justice, as Millan’s actions were a clear violation of the innocence and safety of minors.
The investigation into Millan’s heinous acts was a collaborative effort between the Jamestown Police Department, led by Chief Timothy Jackson, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, directed by Acting Special Agent in Charge Mark Grimm. Their dedication to uncovering and bringing to justice those who prey on children is commendable.
Millan’s conviction and sentence serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by cyber predators and the importance of vigilance. It also highlights the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies working together to protect our youth from such predatory acts.
This case is a somber testament to the relentless pursuit of justice for those who victimize the innocent, and it underscores the ongoing battle against cyber-enabled child exploitation. The Grimy Times will continue to report on such cases, aiming to bring awareness and accountability to those who abuse their power over vulnerable individuals.
