Artez Martre Williams, a 24-year-old Mobile man with a history of violent crime, was busted by Mobile Police Department narcotics investigators on November 20, 2025, for illegally possessing a loaded Glock 9mm pistol. Williams, a multi-convicted felon, was found with the gun in his bedroom closet, along with paperwork bearing his name, including his probation drug-testing card. The search also turned up marijuana, baggies, and a Taurus pistol magazine in his carport, and several rounds of 9mm ammunition in his vehicle.
Williams admitted to detectives that the pistol was his, and that he kept it for protection from rival gangs. However, as a felon on federal supervised release and state probation, he knew he was not supposed to possess firearms. His prior convictions include discharging a gun into an occupied building, first-degree theft of property, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud related to a fraudulent COVID-19 relief loan.
U.S. District Judge Kristi K. DuBose sentenced Williams to 30 months in prison, followed by a three-year term of supervised release. During this time, Williams will be subject to drug testing and treatment. The court also ordered him to pay $100 in special assessment and forfeit the 9mm pistol to the United States.
The case highlights the ongoing issue of firearm possession by felons in Alabama, and the efforts of law enforcement to crack down on this crime. Williams’s sentence serves as a warning to others who would illegally possess firearms, and demonstrates the commitment of the U.S. Attorney’s Office to prosecuting these cases.
