A high-capacity magazine loaded with 16 live rounds of 9mm ammunition was spotted in a car that pulled over on Feb. 7, 2026, after a disturbance call. Luis Enrique Trevino, 32, of Coalinga, was riding as the front passenger.
Trevino, a convicted felon with prior convictions, immediately bailed out of the vehicle and fled the scene, discarding a backpack containing a private-made, 9mm handgun.
Coalinga Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations tracked down Trevino, and after a brief pursuit, he was apprehended. Surveillance footage showed Trevino trying to hide the backpack in a trash can.
Trevino is prohibited from owning guns or ammunition due to his past convictions. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
This case is part of Operation Take Back.
