Ernest Jeshad Foster, Firearm Possession, Florida 2024

Fort Myers, Florida – In a hard-hitting blow against illegal firearm possession, U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell has sentenced Ernest Jeshad Foster, 32, of Fort Myers, to 3 years and 10 months in federal prison. The court also ordered Foster to forfeit the firearm and ammunition seized during the offense.

Foster’s criminal actions were exposed on August 23, 2023, when the Fort Myers Police Department pulled over a vehicle with Foster as its front seat passenger. Officer’s noticed Foster frantically reaching into the glove compartment before rapidly closing it. As Foster exited, the compartment popped open, revealing a loaded Taurus handgun. Foster is a seven-time convicted felon and is prohibited by federal law from owning or possessing firearms.

Assistant United States Attorney Simon Eth led the prosecution of this case, which was investigated by both the Fort Myers Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This sentence comes as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a comprehensive strategy aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence, making neighborhoods safer for all residents.

Project Safe Neighborhoods, launched on May 26, 2021, strengthens community trust and legitimacy through various initiatives including supporting community-based organizations that prevent violence before it occurs.
