A Syracuse man has been brought to justice for his involvement in a drug trafficking operation in Plattsburgh, New York. Marquail Jones, age 42, pled guilty to possessing and intending to distribute controlled substances, announced United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Timothy Foley, Acting Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Division.
Jones admitted that on December 18, 2020, he distributed 82 grams of cocaine to an individual in Schuyler Falls, New York. The following items were found in his vehicle: approximately 8.8 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 82 grams of cocaine, and approximately 38.3 grams of fentanyl, along with approximately $15,000 in cash and a scale.
Marquail Jones faces up to 20 years in prison, a post-incarceration term of at least 3 years and up to a life term of supervised release, and a maximum fine of $1 million. A defendant’s sentence is imposed by a judge based on the particular statute the defendant is charged with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.
The case was investigated by the DEA, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas Collyer. The guilty plea is a significant development in the ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking in the Plattsburgh area.
