Felon Indicted on Federal Gun Charges
A 31-year-old New Orleans man has been indicted on federal gun charges after being found in possession of a firearm, despite being a convicted felon.
Quincy Jackson, 31, was charged in a single-count indictment by a federal grand jury on July 23, 2021, for violating the Federal Gun Control Act, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.
According to court documents, Jackson was previously convicted of manslaughter, possession of heroin, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. As a felon, Jackson is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
On July 5, 2021, Jackson was found in possession of a Glock semi-automatic handgun. If convicted, he faces a maximum term of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, up to 3 years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.
U.S. Attorney Evans emphasized that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs to reduce violent crime.
The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles D. Strauss.
