Felon James H. Anthony Found Guilty Of Illegal Revolver Possession

PITTSBURGH – A federal jury has swiftly convicted James H. Anthony, a repeat offender with a violent criminal past, of illegal possession of a revolver, in a case that sent shockwaves through the local community.

Anthony was tried before Senior United States District Judge Donetta Ambrose and found guilty after less than an hour of deliberation. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Barbara K. Doolittle, the evidence at trial established that on September 25, 2011, Anthony was in possession of a Rossi .38 special revolver with a obliterated serial number, reported stolen years prior by Ligonier Township Police Department.

Despite his inability to lawfully possess any firearm due to previous felony convictions, Anthony was caught with the gun at his home in Fawn Township, Allegheny County. The investigation leading to this conviction was a collaborative effort between the Fawn Township Police Department, the Allegheny County Police Department, and the ATF.

Judge Ambrose has scheduled sentencing for March 27, 2014. Anthony’s three previous convictions for violent felony or serious drug offenses call for a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years up to life in prison, along with a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will be determined by the seriousness of the offense and the defendant’s prior criminal history.

Until sentencing, Anthony remains under house arrest. His conviction serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by repeat offenders and the justice system’s resolve to hold them accountable.
