MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – Antoine Paul Brown, a 38-year-old man from Martinsburg, West Virginia, has admitted to a firearms charge, United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II announced.
Brown pleaded guilty today to one count of “False Statement During Purchase of Firearm.” He admitted to falsifying a form to purchase a firearm for someone else in April 2019 in Berkeley County.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, Brown faces up to 20 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $1,000,000. The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The FBI; U.S. Marshals Service; Homeland Security Investigations; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives; the West Virginia Air National Guard; the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative; the West Virginia State Police; the Harpers Ferry Police Department, and the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C. investigated.
The Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force consists of the West Virginia State Police, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Ranson Police Department, the Charles Town Police Department, and the Martinsburg Police Department.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the case. Brown’s guilty plea is the result of an ongoing investigation into firearms trafficking in the Eastern Panhandle.
The investigation involved a collaborative effort between local, state, and federal agencies to combat firearms trafficking and related crimes.
