A notorious drug trafficker, Usoro E. McWhorter, with eight prior felony convictions, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute massive quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl in Atlanta, Georgia. McWhorter’s accomplice, Omari Nicks, received a 12-year sentence last year for the same crimes. The duo’s operation involved selling deadly drugs from an Atlanta apartment, with McWhorter even attempting to dump heroin out of a window to evade law enforcement.
The investigation and prosecution were the result of a collaborative effort between federal and local law enforcement agencies, including the DEA and the Cartersville Police Department. According to U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg, McWhorter’s sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense and the commitment of law enforcement to holding drug traffickers accountable.
Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Field Division, Jae W. Chung, emphasized that McWhorter’s actions demonstrate a clear disregard for the law and human life. The recent conviction and sentencing of McWhorter underscore the devastating impact of fentanyl trafficking on communities, fueling addiction, overdoses, and loss of life at an alarming rate.
Major Mark Mayton of the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force noted that the sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense and the commitment of law enforcement and the judicial system to holding those responsible accountable. The Cartersville Police Department has taken an aggressive approach to drug enforcement, and this case was no exception.
