A 33-year-old Aiken man took a wild ride in Five Points, Columbia, when he ditched a loaded 9 mm pistol during a traffic stop. Devron Jakell Duncan was already a convicted felon with a history of domestic violence, gun possession, and kidnapping.
On February 15, 2023, a University of South Carolina Police Department officer pulled over Duncan’s vehicle around 2 a.m. in the Five Points area. When the officer tried to keep him inside the car, Duncan pushed the cop and took off on foot.
After a brief chase, Duncan was apprehended and a search of the area turned up the tossed pistol. Investigators later found that Duncan’s girlfriend had bought the gun, but claimed he had stolen it from her residence.
Duncan’s long rap sheet makes him a prime candidate for serious prison time. He faces up to 15 years behind bars and a fine of up to $250,000.
This case is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.
