Trevor Jerremy Jones, 36, got caught red-handed in Lexington County, South Carolina, with a stolen pistol and a stash of pot. On November 6, 2021, a University of South Carolina Police officer pulled over Jones for a suspicious expired car tag. When the cop approached the vehicle, he got a whiff of something strong – marijuana.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found a bag of suspected marijuana in the driver’s side door and a large bag in the center console. A closer look revealed a loaded .40 caliber pistol in the glove box. The gun had been reported stolen, and Jones knew it.
Jones claimed he bought the gun from a friend, but it was clear he was cooking up something more sinister. He had a large amount of cash, grouped into small denominations, consistent with the sale of narcotics. Lab tests later confirmed he was dealing.
As part of the plea deal, Jones faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. United States District Judge Sherri A. Lydon will sentence him after reviewing a sentencing report.
