A brazen gun smuggler was caught in South Carolina, accused of ferrying over a dozen firearms and ammo into New York City. Daryl Rutherford, 40, is charged with firearms trafficking, unlicensed dealing, and more.
He allegedly transported the guns through multiple states, ending up in the hands of a convicted felon in the Big Apple. Law enforcement says this illicit flow fuels violent crime and endangers lives.
Rutherford’s scheme was busted after a months-long investigation involving the DEA, ATF, and NYPD. He’s scheduled to appear in court tomorrow morning.
U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton vowed to hold those responsible for gun trafficking accountable, saying ‘New Yorkers deserve to live in communities free from illegal firearms and those who use them to commit crimes.’
