Steven Wright, Gun Possession, Mississippi 2024

Meridian’s Steven Wright has been locked away for 27 months after being caught with a firearm. The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office detained Wright following a traffic stop, where they discovered the illegal weapon.

Wright, aged 30, had already served time for armed robbery and was on state supervised release when he was caught with the firearm. Federal law bans convicted felons from owning or possessing firearms, yet Wright managed to break this rule.

The court documents show that Wright was indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2025, with his guilty plea coming just three months later. His sentence includes a state sentence of 11 years and 175 days for the illegal possession charge, which also led to the revocation of his supervised release.

Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon and Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson of the ATF announced the sentencing, emphasizing the Department of Justice’s commitment to Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime and illegal immigration.

This operation has brought together resources from various task forces to tackle organized crime and protect communities from criminals like Wright. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Allen prosecuted the case with vigilance.
