Felony Firearm Possession Lands Idaho Man 27 Months in Prison
BOISE, IDAHO – A 35-year-old man from Idaho Falls is headed to federal prison for 27 months after being caught with a firearm. Kim Jarod Kouros Firouzbakhsh pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm after a domestic violence incident in May 2020.
On May 2, 2020, Nampa police officers responded to a domestic violence call and discovered Firouzbakhsh in possession of a firearm in his pants pocket. At the time, Firouzbakhsh was on parole due to a prior felony drug conviction, making it illegal for him to possess firearms.
The firearm was discovered during a routine search by the officers, and Firouzbakhsh was subsequently arrested and charged with the crime. He pleaded guilty to the charge on March 16, 2021, and was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill.
Firouzbakhsh will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
U.S. Acting Attorney Rafael M. Gonzalez praised the joint investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Nampa Police Department, which led to charges against Firouzbakhsh.
“It is illegal for convicted felons to possess firearms. Repeat offenders caught with illegal weapons in Idaho will face federal prosecution,” said Mr. Gonzalez. “The Nampa Police Department and departments throughout Idaho are working closely with ATF to hold repeat offenders accountable for their continued criminal actions. We will continue to work together to make cases to keep our community safe from criminal offenders,” he concluded.
This case was prosecuted as part of the federal government’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, which aims to reduce violent crime by targeting repeat offenders and partnering with local prevention and reentry programs.
