ALBANY, NY – Terrell Bell, 28, of Schenectady, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to 63 months for peddling fentanyl. The sentence, handed down yesterday, is a clear message: dealing poison in upstate New York comes with a hefty price.
According to federal prosecutors, Bell wasn’t exactly a stranger to the system. He was already on parole in January 2024 when law enforcement raided his Schenectady home. What they found wasn’t a simple parole violation – it was a full-blown fentanyl operation. Nearly 1,800 pills were discovered stashed in his bedroom, alongside a staggering $90,000 in cash scattered throughout the residence.
Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III didn’t mince words. “Bell didn’t learn his lesson after a prior felony conviction and term of parole, but he should learn it now: Dealing drugs in this District doesn’t pay. My Office will make sure of it,” Sarcone stated, signaling a continued crackdown on drug trafficking in the region.
The investigation, led by the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), highlighted the dangers posed by individuals profiting from the opioid crisis. FBI Special Agent in Charge Craig A. Tremaroli emphasized the commitment to holding these criminals accountable. “This sentence proves any criminal who chooses to profit from poisoning our communities will be held accountable. The FBI remains deeply committed to working with our partners…to investigate and bring to justice these individuals trafficking dangerous drugs,” Tremaroli said.
Senior United States District Judge Frederick J. Scullin, Jr. didn’t just stop at the prison sentence. Bell will also face a 4-year term of supervised release after he serves his time. And the $90,000? It’s now forfeited, a direct hit to Bell’s criminal enterprise. The FBI conducted the investigation with help from the Schenectady Police Department, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikayla Espinosa.
