Fentanyl Dealer Trimmer Gets 10.5 Years, Assaulted Officer
GREENBELT, MD – Andrew Joseph Trimmer, 32, of Bowie, Maryland, is headed to federal prison for ten and a half years after being sentenced on charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and assaulting a federal officer. U.S. District Judge Paul W. Grimm handed down the sentence today, followed by three years of supervised release.
The case, a joint effort by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD), Maryland National Capital Park Police, Bowie Police Department, and Anne Arundel County Police, reveals a callous disregard for human life. Between May 2018 and September 2020, Trimmer and his girlfriend, Alicia Walls, peddled heroin and fentanyl throughout the Bowie area, leaving a trail of near-fatal overdoses in their wake. The U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, Erek L. Barron, announced the sentencing, emphasizing the severity of Trimmer’s crimes.
The details are harrowing. On May 28, 2018, Trimmer sold fentanyl to Victim A, who subsequently overdosed and required life support. This wasn’t an isolated incident. Trimmer had been supplying Victim A with heroin and fentanyl roughly twice a week for two years. Even more disturbing, Trimmer and Walls allegedly conducted their drug dealing operations in the presence of a minor. In July 2019, a nine-month-old child ingested narcotics left within reach, overdosed, and required emergency medical intervention. Both victims survived, but the potential for tragedy was immense.
When law enforcement attempted to apprehend Trimmer following a search warrant execution at a hotel room, he didn’t just resist – he attacked. Trimmer fled on foot, ignoring commands to stop, and then physically assaulted a federal task force officer, grabbing the officer’s body armor. The struggle resulted in a torn meniscus for the officer. During the altercation, 30 grams of fentanyl fell from Trimmer’s jacket. A search of his car revealed digital scales, plastic bags, and razor blades – the tools of his deadly trade.
The damage didn’t stop with his initial arrest. Even while incarcerated, Trimmer continued his violent behavior, assaulting corrections officers on three separate occasions, causing them bodily harm. The court ordered Trimmer to pay $52,174.52 in restitution to cover the medical expenses incurred by the officer he assaulted and the corrections officers he attacked. Alicia Walls also continued the drug operation while Trimmer was in custody, supplying heroin and fentanyl to Victims B and C, both of whom also overdosed and required hospitalization. Over a six-month period, the pair distributed at least 240 grams of heroin and fentanyl to these two victims.
“This sentence should serve as a warning to those who profit from the misery of others,” stated a source close to the investigation. “Trimmer’s actions put lives at risk, and his violence towards law enforcement will not be tolerated. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing fight against the fentanyl epidemic.”
