BUFFALO, N.Y. – Samuel L. Arrington, III, 41, of Jamestown, New York, is staring down a lengthy federal sentence after admitting to trafficking fentanyl and illegally possessing firearms. U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced Arrington’s guilty plea today, a grim confirmation of the drug and gun violence choking Western New York.
Arrington pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl, and being a felon in possession of firearms. The charges aren’t just numbers on a page; they represent a blatant disregard for public safety and a willingness to profit from the misery of others. The mandatory minimum penalty is five years in prison, but Arrington could face up to 40 years behind bars and a staggering $5,000,000 fine.
The bust went down on October 12, 2023, when New York State Parole Officers raided Arrington’s Jamestown residence. What they found was a dealer’s den: 105 grams of cocaine, a substantial 68 grams of fentanyl, two firearms, a cache of ammunition, five cell phones, $2,301 in cold, hard cash, and the tools of the trade – drug paraphernalia. Most disturbingly, the fentanyl was hidden underneath Arrington’s infant child, a calculated act of callousness that speaks volumes about his character.
This wasn’t Arrington’s first dance with the law. He’s a repeat offender, convicted of drug felonies in Chautauqua County, NY, Court in April 2006, and again in Erie County, Pennsylvania, Court in December 2019. Those convictions should have kept him far from firearms, but Arrington clearly ignored the law, putting himself and the community at risk. Assistant U.S. Attorney Louis A. Testani is prosecuting the case, and will be seeking maximum penalties.
The investigation was a multi-agency effort, a testament to the coordinated pushback against drug trafficking in the region. The Drug Enforcement Administration (Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarentino, III), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (Special Agent-in-Charge Bryan Miller), the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force (Jamestown Police Chief Timothy Jackson), the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office (Sheriff James Quattrone), and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (Commissioner Daniel F. Martuscello III) all played a crucial role in bringing Arrington to justice.
Arrington’s sentencing is scheduled for October 11, 2024, before Judge Arcara.
