⏱ 2 min read

A devastating fentanyl deal in Farmington, Missouri, ended in tragedy when a man overdosed and died after receiving a fatal dose from James B. Link. On June 14, 2025, Link and the victim exchanged messages about fentanyl pills, and Link’s vehicle was spotted leaving the victim’s home shortly before the death. The next day, investigators interviewed Link, who admitted delivering blue and yellow pills containing fentanyl to the victim. Link, 32, pleaded guilty in April to one count of distribution of fentanyl.

U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr. sentenced Link to 10 years in prison for his role in the fatal overdose. The sentence will run consecutive to any sentence Link receives for 10 pending cases in state court. The investigation was led by the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office, the Mineral Area Drug Task Force, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Shelton prosecuted the case, which highlights the dangers of fentanyl distribution and the devastating consequences it can have on families and communities. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of holding those responsible for fentanyl distribution accountable for their actions.
