Joseph Burchett, Gun Sale and Robbery, Missouri 2024

⏱ 2 min read

Joseph Burchett, a 26-year-old gang leader from St. Louis, was involved in a string of illegal activities, including the sale of guns to an undercover ATF agent and the subsequent robbery of that agent. The crimes took place in St. Louis, Missouri, between April and August 2024. Burchett, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was motivated by the desire for profit and control in the city’s gang landscape. On Friday, he was sentenced to 200 months in prison for his role in the crimes.

Burchett’s crimes began with the sale of a Glock to the undercover ATF agent on April 30, 2024. The agent was accompanied by Burchett’s co-defendant, Cryland Robinson, who was armed with an AR-style rifle. Burchett obtained the gun from fellow gang member Terrence Robinson and used teenagers to conduct the transactions. Over the next few months, Burchett arranged for the sale of more guns, including a fully automatic Glock 19, and planned to rob the agent.

The robbery took place on August 1, when co-defendant Todd Lumpkins got into the back seat of the agent’s car and stole the rest of the promised $1,100. The agent, who had already handed over half of the money, was threatened by Lumpkins, who brandished a gun. The agent later wrote to the judge, stating that he thought he was going to lose his life during the transaction.

Burchett’s sentence reflects the seriousness of his crimes and the danger he posed to the community. The case highlights the ongoing issue of gun violence and gang activity in St. Louis and the need for law enforcement to continue to crack down on these crimes.
